Update: Suspect Arrested in Golden Grove Prison Shooting

Feb. 28, 2007 — A 28-year-old inmate has been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment in the shooting of four other prisoners inside Golden Grove prison Tuesday morning.
Police on Wednesday said that Gregory Turbe was arrested at 1:28 p.m. Tuesday, about two hours after the incident was reported to the 911 Center.
Late Tuesday night, acting Attorney General Vincent Frazer said that the shooter had not yet been identified but that the weapon used, a small-caliber handgun, had been recovered.
Bail for Turbe, who was serving a 15-year prison sentence as a habitual offender for weapons possession, was set at $50,000 by Superior Court Judge Julio Brady following a court appearance. He was returned to jail shortly thereafter and faces additional prison time if he is convicted of charges in Tuesday's incident.
Injured were Hugo Greenidge, 34, Cyril Gillard, 22, Nordell Charles, 21, and Gemini Barnes, 24 — all inmates serving sentences at the prison. Greenidge sustained a gunshot wound to the knee, Charles to the left elbow, Gillard to the abdomen and Barnes in the upper buttock, lower back area.
Frazer meanwhile has ordered an indefinite lockdown of the prison. Police and the U.S. Marshal's Office is assisting in a search for weapons and other contraband.
Frazer, who was on St. Croix Wednesday for a legislative hearing, could not be reached for further comment.
