March 21, 2007 — The University of the Virgin Islands has announced the winners of the 18th annual Afternoon on the Green held March 4 on the St. Thomas campus golf course.
Topping this year’s list with most wins is Dawn Milliner, who won four times in two categories. Milliner won third prize for her brown sugar walnut pound cake in the pastries and sweets category; while in the native drinks category, she took first, second, and third places for her soursop juice, ginger beer, and sorrel, respectively.
Taking first prize in the main dishes/meats/poultry category was Lash and Boom's Jack Daniel Tofu, prepared by Anson Larcheveaux and Selwyn Gumbs.
In the soups category, Erica Donovan’s pea soup and kallaloo both tied for first place.
First-time contributor Mark Freeman won the first prize in the breads category for his whole wheat eggless banana bread.
Judging was done by patrons who purchased $10 or more in tickets and was based on originality, taste and creativity. Please see the complete list of winners below.
