April 17, 2007 – Lt. Gov. Greg Francis will honor FirstBank at the Grand Opening ceremony of their Frederiksted branch on Wednesday, April 18, on St. Croix. FirstBank celebrates the completion of construction of their fifteenth branch in the Virgin Islands situated on No. 6 Strand Street. Francis will address the audience about the administration's role in rejuvenating Frederiksted and perform the official ribbon cutting.
Its new facility provides an ATM, night depository outlet, an express deposit machine, Internet banking kiosk, and a host of service representatives and banking consultants. The branch exhibits FirstBank's signature design of glass, contemporary furnishings and fixtures and, of course, their characteristic green.
First chartered in 1948, it was the first savings and loan institution established in Puerto Rico. In 1962, it accomplished its first expansion outside of Puerto Rico to St. Thomas. A year later, they opened a branch on St. Croix. Since then, it has played a fundamental role in improving the quality of life in the Virgin Islands by helping citizens acquire their first home, purchase automobiles and establish savings and credit facilities.
Thanks to the leadership of its management team, the institution has experienced an impressive growth and transformation. Since 2002, the bank has opened seven new branches over four islands, boasts the longest service hours of any bank in the market and offers the widest range of products and options over their competitors. It has become the leading financial institution in the V.I. with 15 branches, 19 ATM locations and over 400 employees. They offer a full range of financial services to individual, commercial, and corporate clients patterned to improve the quality of life.
