June 1, 2007 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen today extended her congratulations to the deJongh administration and the Department of Public Works for the groundbreaking of the C'sted Bypass project which signals that the long awaited construction is soon to begin.
"I am pleased that our efforts in the 1999 Building Efficient Surface Transportation Act (BESTEA) and the 2005 Transportation Equity Act has brought us all to the day where we can see that this project aimed at providing an alternate route to traffic heading to St. Croix's east end," Delegate Christensen said. The 1999 BESTEA allocations provided $6 million apiece for the C'sted Bypass on St. Croix and the East-West Corridor on St. Thomas and the 2005 Transportation Equity Act provided $8 million apiece for both projects.
"It is gratifying when the efforts of all segments of our government work together to produce projects that serve the best interests of our citizens," the Delegate concluded.
