June 15, 2007 — One of three victims injured in a series of unrelated incidents on St. Thomas Friday is dead, while the others underwent emergency surgery at Schneider Regional Medical Center.
The first incident, a stabbing at the Tutu Park Mall, occurred at approximately 12:31 p.m., according to a Police news release. Police responding to the scene found the victim, an unidentified 18-year-old male, lying on his stomach and bleeding from multiple stab wounds.
"According to Police, the victim reported that he was walking in the mall when he was approached by three suspects who stabbed him repeatedly," the release said. "The victim told Police that he recognized one of the three suspects."
The second incident, a shooting on Brookman Road in the Mariendahl area, was reported to Police soon after — around 12:55 p.m. After hearing the shots, a concerned citizen transported the victim — an unidentified black male in his late 30s or early 40s — to the hospital. While en route, however, the vehicle transporting the victim was involved in a car accident near Al Cohens Plaza.
"The shooting victim was subsequently taken by ambulance to the Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center, where he expired from what appears to be a single gunshot wound," the release said.
In this case, Police have no information to identify the victim.
A few hours later, around 5:32 p.m., another shooting incident was reported, this time in the vicinity of Oswald Harris Court. The victim, an unidentified 19-year-old male, sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the body.
According to the release, the victim has not been able to provide any information to the Police because of the extent of his injuries.
Police are asking anyone with information on these crimes to contact the Major Crime Unit hotline at 715-5544 or 911.
