June 20, 2007 — Gov. John deJongh Jr. has named a veteran media professional as his special assistant for external affairs, according to a Government House news release.
David Edgecombe has about 30 years experience in the communications/media field, working in print, radio, television and the stage. He plans to use his position to build on the "historically great relationships" between the U.S. Virgin Islands and many of its Caribbean neighbors, according to the news release.
“We will also nurture our relationship with our counterparts in the British Virgin Islands to accomplish many mutual benefits through collaboration in such areas as disaster-preparedness, health, tourism, the arts, technological applications, public safety, trade and business ventures," Edgecombe said. "I am excited by this opportunity to help make wonderful things happen."
Edgecombe received his bachelor’s degree in communications arts and his master’s degree in English from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. He also obtained his diploma in journalism from the Thomson Foundation in London, England, and is currently a doctoral candidate in performance and new media studies from the University of Texas at Dallas. He has written two books, Heaven and Other Plays and Contemporary Drama of the Caribbean. Edgecombe also serves as a member of the St. Thomas Council on the Humanities, the Forum and the V.I. Diabetic Council.
Edgecombe, who is married to Lenore Edgecombe, has an 18-year-old son, Emani.
