June 28, 2007 — A 28-year-old man who beat a murder charge last year in the Virgin Islands because witnesses were reluctant to come forward has been arrested on drug charges in Pennsylvania.
Kirk Short reportedly sold cocaine out of his home to a witness who was cooperating with police, according to The Express-Times, a New Jersey newspaper.
Police, who had set up the controlled purchase, or sting, said that they witnessed the transaction and recovered money given to the informant to buy the drugs.
Short was charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and delivery of a controlled substance. He was jailed in Pennsylvania's Northampton County Prison, unable to post $50,000 bail.
In the territory last year, Short was accused of murdering 18-year-old Irwin Gibson Polydore in a housing community. However, the murder charges were dropped after witnesses would not come forward to testify.
The arrest of Short last week in Pennsylvania isn't the first time he's been arrested in the States. The Express-Times said he was arrested April 29, 2006, after a fight outside a Pennsylvania bar and restaurant when a background check on Short showed he was wanted for murder.
He was arrested and later extradited to the Virgin Islands to face those charges.
