June 28, 2007 – Virgin Islands Commissioner of Agriculture Louis E. Petersen Jr., Ph.D. was elected as secretary of the Southern Association of State Departments of Agriculture during a recent meeting.
This annual meeting provides an opportunity for networking and information exchange among commissioners of departments of agriculture throughout the southern region. His election to this post is a remarkable accomplishment considering that the 2007 meeting marked his first time attending the association meeting, which was held June 17-20, in Nashville, Tenn. Petersen plans to host this meeting in the Virgin Islands in the near future. The association membership consists of fifteen southern states, Puerto Rico and the U.S.V.I.
