July 6, 2007 – Senator James A. Weber III announced today that he has successfully placed 30 students into summer youth employment jobs. There were 3 categories of placement. Some students were placed with organizations that opted to pay for the entire cost of employment, others were placed with organizations that opted to pay for ½ the cost of employment and finally we placed students with non-profit community organizations such as the Boys and Girls Club and the Superior Court Rising Stars wherein the entire cost of employment was paid for the Summer Youth Employment Program.
Students from Ludvig Harrigan Court, Whim, Adventure Hill, New Works, Mon Bijou, Sion Farm, Strawberry Hill, and Welcome are participants in the program. Students from both public high schools – St. Croix Central High School and St. Croix Educational Complex, as well as students from St. Joseph's High School, Free Will Baptist School, Seventh Day Adventist School and Country Day School participated in the program. Additionally we had a number of junior high school students participate in the program as well as some 1st and 2nd year college students.
It is essential that all students are afforded the opportunity to have a work experience during the summer months. To that end, I approached this summer youth employment program as a challenge to place as many students as possible. I am grateful to all the businesses especially those that decided to participate in the program and pay the entire cost of employment for the students.
