Sept. 26, 2007 — Local distributor Hunter Food and Spirits, in conjunction with Procter and Gamble, has donated 1,000 Crest toothbrushes to V.I. youth to promote early oral hygiene in preschoolers.
This initiative was spearheaded by the V.I. Department of Human Services, which will also be responsible for distribution of the brushes to local day-care centers through the Office of Child Care and Regulatory Services, according to a news release from the department.
The presentation of the toothbrushes was made to the department Monday at Human Services' Knud Hansen Complex. Hunter Foods and Spirits General Manager Martson J. Winkles and Sales Representative Mickey Webster toted in several boxes of toothbrushes.
“We are really grateful for this donation to our children," said Karen Blyden, administrator of Child Care and Regulatory Services. "It is often said that it takes a village to raise a child, and Hunter Foods is a part of that village.”
The administrator said she hopes Hunter Foods’ donation will encourage other businesses to follow suit.
