Sept. 27, 2007 The first Virgin Islands Fashion Week will take place from Oct. 2-8. The V.I. will join other Caribbean nations in recognizing the region's fashion market. The event will bring together local fashion designers and other regional and international designers, who will showcase their latest work at 6 p.m., on Sunday, Oct. 7, in the Grand Ballroom of the host hotel, Marriott's Frenchman's Reef. The theme is "Caribbean Catwalk." Special guest designers will include Calvin Southwell of Antigua and Sonia Noel of Guyana.
The official launching of Fashion Week will be held on Thursday, Oct. 4, at the Yacht Haven Grande. The highlight of this event will be the presentation of the V.I. Cultural Wear and Dance and the introduction of the VIFW 2007 cast of designers, who will showcase their creations.
Another event will be A Fashion Market Place, hosted by the Tutu Park Mall at noon, on Saturday, Oct. 6. The day will culminate from 6-7 p.m., with a mini fashion show: A Taste of Caribbean Catwalk.
Several fashion editors, and market editors from regional and international publications will attend. There will be models from the regional and international arena. Plus-size model Teiko Donor of the UK will be featured, along with many beautiful V.I. models. Rising star, Caribbean male model and Face of Shabeau winner Mario Octavon Bazille of St. Maarten will be sharing the runway with some of the top V.I. male models, showcasing the designs of Amethyst Richardson, Mode Afika, Sonia Noel, N.A.T.T.Y Garments and Riddim Driven, and Men Steppin' In Design.
The official end of the week will be a Swim Suit Fashion Show and Calendar Release Party at 11 a.m., on Monday, Oct. 8, at Magens Bay.
Tickets are available at all major ticket outlets and cost $35 per person. Proceeds from ticket sales will benefit the Family Resource Center.
