Oct. 16, 2007 — The research and public service component of the University of the Virgin Islands is proud to announce the publication of Volume 21 of The Caribbean Writer, an international journal of Caribbean literature produced annually by the university.
"Like its predecessors, Volume 21 offers a rich mix of art by the territory’s artists as well as poetry, short fiction, personal essays and book reviews written by an international concert of writers and literary critics," said a UVI news release. "A special feature of this year’s anthology is an in-depth interview with Jamaican writer Wayne Brown, one of the region’s most accomplished poets and columnists."
In the journal’s awards section, readers can find the prize winners from the 20th-anniversary issue: Joan Anim Addo, a native of Grenada now residing in London, won The Daily News Prize for poetry; Carolina Paiz from Guatemala garnered The Avis’s Canute Broadhurst Prize for short fiction; V. Corso, currently living in the Netherlands, received The Charlotte and Isidor Paiewonsky Prize for first time publication in The Caribbean Writer; Guyana’s Ian McDonald was awarded The David Hough Literary Prize to an author residing in the Caribbean; and Tregenza Roach of St. Thomas secured The Marguerite Cobb McKay Prize to a V.I. author.
