Pistarckle Theater Presents 'The Nutcracker'

0

Nov. 20, 2007 – Pistarckle Theater brings some holiday spirit to the islands with a new adaptation of "The Nutcracker" by Betsy Summers. It will open at 7 p.m., on Dec. 7, which will be hosted by H. Stern. Most people know of Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" ballet, but this adaptation is not just dancing. Summers went back to the original E.T.A Hoffman book, "The Nutcracker and the Mouse King," to develop this original fairy tale play with comedy, dancing and drama.
Director Melissa Crespo of New York said, "This timeless Christmas tale of young Clara's quest to save the Nutcracker prince encompasses everything about the classic ballet and more. Not only are there dancing candy canes, flowers and a Sugar Plum Fairy, but there is also fantastic acting from the talented Pistarckle community. Bringing the holiday spirit to St. Thomas has been a tremendous experience, as we create an island tradition." There will be a champagne pre-party and a H. Stern piece to raffle at intermission. The play is directed by Melissa Crespo and choreographed by Helen Sidiropoulos. Performances include a preview show on Dec. 6; an opening night on Dec. 7; performances on Dec. 8, and Dec. 13-15, at 7 p.m.; and matinees on Dec. 8, 15 and 16, at 2 p.m.
Please bring an unwrapped new toy or gift to the performance and receive two free raffle tickets to win great prizes during the intermissions of all shows. All toys will be distributed by Pistarckle Theater and The Family Center to organizations that work with kids and young adults.
