Nov. 25, 2007 – The Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts calendar is now available just in time for the holidays. "Island Art & Soul," a 13 month full-color calendar of original works of fine art by Virgin Island and Caribbean artists, is being distributed to gift shops and stores on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John.
Artists featured in the calendar this year are: Shansi Miller, Madeleine I.E. Meehan and Arroyo Rivas of St. Thomas; Sue Snow, John Jones, Cindy Male, Thérèse Trudeau, Leo Carty, the late Maria Henle and Danica David of St. Croix; Rachelle Kaufman of Puerto Rico; M. Lisa Etre of St. John; and Anthony D. Lee of Memphis, Tennessee. The public can contact the artists through their e-mail addresses and Web sites, which are included on the calendar in their bios.
"This year's calendar is dedicated to the late Maria Henle," said Emily Graci, CMCArts development director. "Her painting, Grotto #1, is featured on the cover in remembrance of her legacy, her contributions to the local art scene, and her devotion to the protection of our natural environment."
CMCArts is a leader on St. Croix' art scene. Located in a newly renovated historic property on Frederiksted's waterfront, the Center offers after school and summer youth art programs, instructional art courses and educational art programming to students of all ages, cutting-edge art exhibitions, an artist-in-residence program that attracts artists from the Caribbean and beyond, cultural arts events and more.
The "Island Art & Soul" calendar is CMCArts' major fundraiser, which allows the Center to continue to bring art and education programs to the community.
