Jan. 23, 2008 — Gov. John deJongh Jr. is the keynote speaker at Sunday's annual Friends of the V.I. National Park meeting.
"We've asked him to speak on the partnership between the park and the government," said Friends Development Director Karen Brady.
The meeting runs from 2 to 4 p.m. at the T'ree Lizards Restaurant at Cinnamon Bay Campground.
Attendees will also hear about the state of the park from Superintendent Mark Hardgrove. This will be Hardgrove's first address to the group since he became superintendent in September.
Additionally, Friends President Joe Kessler will give the organization's annual report.
"You'll hear about what we did and what we intend to do," Brady said.
The Friends will present volunteer of the year awards to people who donated their time to make a difference in the park. Additionally, the Friends will recognize a park staff member who best embodies the partnership between the park and the Friends.
The event always attracts a good turnout and provides a chance for people to meet other Friends members, as well as park and Friends staff, Brady said.
You do not need to be a member of the Friends to attend. Light refreshments will be served after the meeting.
The Friends will run a shuttle from the park's maintenance parking lot because parking is limited at Cinnamon Bay, Brady said.
Call the Friends at 779-4940 for more information and to confirm attendance.
