Humane Society to Hold Valentine's 'Prom Night'

Jan. 29, 2008 – The Humane Society will host its 31st annual Valentine Ball on Saturday, Feb. 9, at the Mark C. Marin Center at Antilles School. The theme this year is "Prom Night." With a full compliment of music, from the oldies to the best of today, guests can dance the night away to the music of Milo's Kings and DJ Eric Snow. Unique lighting techniques will transform the center into something magical, and guests will dine on food prepared by Damaris Catering, according to Board President Joe Aubain.
"Every prom date needs a corsage or boutonniere and we'll have a wide variety for sale," says Chairperson Claudia LaBorde. A special drawing will select the "King and Queen of the Prom" replete with the king's crown, the queen's tiara, scepters and thrones.
There will be something for everyone at the silent auction tables and guests can try their luck at the Wheel of Fortune.
The proceeds from the evening's activities will go towards the care and shelter of the nearly 3,000 homeless, abandoned and abused animals that are admitted to the shelter every year. This spring the Animals Shelter will relocate to its newly completed campus on Rhymer Highway. This state-of-the-art facility will not only provide a safe haven for the animals but a tranquil retreat for families with walking trails and park area. The campus' education center will provide training opportunities for children in animal care and the preservation of the environment.
Tickets are $150 per person, which includes an open bar. They are available at the Chamber of Commerce, How 'Bout Your Pet in Yacht Haven, Home Again in Red Hook and the Shelter office in Estate Nadir. Cocktail hour will begin at 7 p.m., followed by dinner at 8. Limited parking is available on the Antilles Campus with shuttle service from Port of Sale Mall beginning at 6:30.
