CFVI Angels Honored at Fete

March 31, 2008 — The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands Angels reception, held annually to acknowledge particular donors who make annual gifts of $500 or more, was held Saturday evening at the home of George H.T. Dudley and Susan Laura Lugo. Gourmet appetizers from Havana Blue were served throughout the evening as more than 250 Angels enjoyed breathtaking views of Charlotte Amalie harbor and the entire Virgin Islands.
Angel donations support all the activity of more than 90 established funds at the foundation and cover the expenses of all CFVI programs and operations. Angel’s donations also provide funding to launch new initiatives, and help build CFVI’s endowment, which is currently close to $6 million. For 2008, the Angels have provided more than $400,000.
Ricardo J. Charaf, CFVI chairman, made brief remarks on behalf of the Community Foundation’s board of directors, thanking their generous hosts, George Dudley, Susan Lugo and Nicole and Eric Horstmeyer. Because the hosts assume the expenses for the evening, Charaf said, all CFVI Angel donations go directly into the community.
Angels’ support enabled the Foundation to provide $1.5 million in grants, scholarships and direct services in the past twelve months, Charaf said. “With the generous help of Angels, the children, youth and families of the Virgin Islands can realize their fullest potential and participate in making the Virgin Islands a better home for all of us.”
Dee Baecher-Brown, CFVI’s president, encouraged all Angels to attend the foundation’s annual meeting on June 13 to learn more about the work they support at the Community Foundation. The meeting will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at Marriott Frenchman’s Reef
Donations are accepted year round; if you would like information on becoming an Angel log onto the CFVI website or call 774-6031.
