Six Shooting Victims Treated for Injuries

April 4, 2008 — All six victims of a late-night shooting incident at the Bovoni Housing Community have either been released from Schneider Regional Medical Complex or been admitted to the hospital and are currently listed in stable condition.
When questioned by police Thursday evening, the victims — five unidentified males and one female, ranging in age from 18 to 40 — said they were sitting in the stairwell of Building E at Bovoni Housing Community when two unknown individuals approached them and began shooting repeatedly. The suspects were wearing hoodies and had their faces covered, preventing the victims from being able to identify them.
Police responded to the incident around 9:18 p.m. Thursday, and were told when they arrived at the scene that the victims were already en route to the hospital, according to a V.I. Police Department news release. Four of the victims were shot in the upper or lower thigh. One was shot in the buttocks, while another — a 40-year-old male — was shot in the chest.
Police currently have no suspects and will use information provided by community members to piece together the crime, Deputy Police Chief Melvin Venzen said Friday. A motive for the shooting has also not been determined.
Residents with information on this or any other crime are urged to call 715-5522, 715-5548 or emergency 911.
