May 22, 2008 — To better meet customers’ increasing demands for higher speed internet use, Innovative PowerNet has launched a new high speed service for residential customers.
"We’re now offering a new high speed 1.0 Megabit Internet plan called PowerNet Xtreme," Innovative PowerNet General Manager Peter Hayden said in a statement Thursday from the company. "It is twice as fast as our current residential service – PowerNet Plus," Hayden said, adding that the service is guaranteed to be 20 times faster than dial-up Internet service.
He said every new PowerNet Xtreme client’s service is tested to ensure full 1.0 Megabit speed performance.
Hayden said the decision to offer faster service became apparent as more sites such as You Tube, Face Book, and others have become increasingly popular. In turn, he said, Innovative customers want quicker speeds to download frequent video clips, music, high resolution photos, and large email files offered on the popular graphics-heavy sites.
"The most important difference between Innovative PowerNet and all other internet providers in the U.S. Virgin Islands is that we are the only landline based internet service," Hayden said. "This is an important distinction especially in a storm-prone area. In the event of a storm, there is less disruption because there is no need for outside dishes or antennas. That means, you get the service through your line into your home – not through a wireless service," Hayden said. "This makes PowerNet the most reliable and secure internet service available."
