Luis Hospital on Lockdown After Deadly Shooting

0

May 21, 2008 — A man was shot dead early Wednesday morning in his St. Croix hospital room, where he was nursing wounds from a shootout last week in Catherine’s Rest.
Five armed, masked men entered the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital from the rear sometime between 3:15 and 3:45 a.m., tied up a guard, threatened maintenance workers, and made their way to Shadrach Frett’s third-floor hospital room, where they shot him multiple times, according to police.
The hospital "is on lockdown for the safety of the employees," said Police spokeswoman Melody Rames early Wednesday morning.
Frett had been arrested May 12 along with another unidentified man after an early-morning shooting spree that netted several weapons for police and left the area strewn with shell casings. Both men had been taken to the hospital.
V.I. Police and local FBI agents were on the scene Wednesday morning, Rames said.
Police are asking anyone in the community who has any information on the shooting to call Police Chief Thomas Hannah at 340-712-6005, the confidential crime line at 340-778-4950 or 340-777-8711, or police emergency 911.
