Brief: Governor Headed to Washington, then Chicago for Obama Dinner

June 16, 2008 — Gov. John deJongh Jr. left the territory Monday afternoon for Washington, D.C., where he will meet for two days this week with members of the U.S. Congress, including Delegate Donna M. Christensen, and Chicago, where he will attend a dinner for Democratic governors hosted by Barack Obama.
The governor will follow up on earlier conversations that focused on economic-development initiatives for the territory and continued funding for capital projects, including a revamped 911 communications system.
On Thursday deJongh travels to Chicago to take part in a dinner hosted by Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama. Following meetings with Obama Friday morning deJongh will return to the territory.
In his absence and in accordance with provisions of the Revised Organic Act of 1954, as amended, Lt. Gov. Gregory R. Francis will serve as acting governor.
