A Man Who Loved St. Croix

Dear Source:
Most Virgin Islanders who knew the late Sidney Lee, could attest that he truly loved St. Croix and did his utmost to devote his energies and talent to projects and activities which were for the advancement of the inhabitants of that community. His name was a popular name on account of his involvement in community affairs. He was the leader in the establishment of the St. Croix Community Development Fund which to this day, provides financial assistance to St. Croix students. Chiefly, he was involved in economic development for St. Croix and supported many beneficial pieces of legislation and executive policies.
As National Committeeman for the Democratic Party of the Virgin Islands, he championed the causes of the Virgin Islands before a national audience for many years. His stewardship was beneficial and fruitful for the achievements of certain economic and political advancements for the Virgin Islands as a whole.
I served in the Legislature of the Virgin Islands with the late Senator Sidney Lee and respected his business acumen, particularly when he chaired the Finance Committee. He relied on the Wall Street Journal to forecast revenues for the Government's budget and for the most part, he was on point. No Budget Director ever disputed his numbers, to best of my recollection. Moreover, whether Senator was on or off the floor of the Senate, he was steadfast in his vocal support for his community of St. Croix.
The late Senator Lee will be missed. Condolences to his family from Betty and me.
