Long Bay Road Work Moves Ahead with Traffic Signals at Lovers Lane

0

July 15, 2008 — New traffic lights installed at the Lovers Lane intersection are up and running, signaling the near completion of the first phase of the ongoing Long Bay Road project.
The lights, which have been operating in flashing mode for the past few weeks, were turned on Monday, and should help to "greatly improve he flow of traffic through the area," according to a Public Works news release. The signals were included in the original plans for the Lovers Lane intersection, and the ongoing Long Bay Road project. (See "Two Decades Down the Road, Officials Kick Off Long Bay Project.")
The widening of the Veterans Drive highway is already finished, with two lanes running westward (the lanes eventually merge into one as motorists continue onto Veterans Drive), and three eastbound lanes running from Veterans Drive through the Lovers Lane intersection.
Southbound traffic coming from Barbel Plaza through the intersection can also now move right through to Veterans Drive. Beltjen Road is open once again, with residents able to turn east onto Long Bay Road.
Residents are still asked to "exercise caution" when traveling through the intersection, and adhere to the directional signs and traffic lights, the release said.
