July 21, 2008 – An introductory course aimed at individuals interested in or currently employed in the insurance industry will be held this fall at the University of the Virgin Islands. The course, Introduction to Insurance and Captive Management, is scheduled for Sept. 9 to Oct. 16. Sessions will be held 7-9 p.m., on Tuesdays and Thursdays, at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas campus.
The program, which is administered by the UVI – Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center and sponsored by Hudson Management Group Ltd., will offer a limited number of scholarships to participants interested in enrolling in the course. To qualify for the scholarship, participants must pre-register with the UVICELL Center and take the qualifying exam for the course.
Participants will be taught general insurance concepts and principles that provide a better understanding of the insurance process. Topics include risk transfer, liability, claims, workman's compensation, underwriting, property and casualty insurance, and an introduction to captive insurance.
