Enhancement and Repair Work Begins at the Alvin McBean Recreation Complex

Aug. 30, 008 – The Alvin McBean Recreation Complex on St. Thomas will be closed as of Monday, Sept. 1, in order to begin work on the improvement of the facility, according to a press release from the Department of Housing, Parks and Recreation.
The scope of work being performed includes installation of energy efficient sports lights on the softball field; upgrading energy efficient fixtures to the lights on the basketball, volleyball, tennis and paddle ball courts; removal and replacement of the masonry and wooden bleachers with new aluminum bleachers; repairs to the bleachers at the basketball court; removal and replacement of damaged perimeter fencing at the courts; resurfacing of the basketball, volleyball, tennis and paddle ball courts; installation of new backboards on the courts; and renovation of the restrooms, office and recreation center.
"I am again pleased that we are able to continue to implement this administration's effort to enhance and repair the various parks and recreation facilities throughout the territory," said Commissioner St. Claire N. Williams of DHPR. "Meanwhile, we are asking for the cooperation of everyone to avoid the construction area and to follow all posted signs during the construction period."
