Sept. 14, 2008 – The Open Doors program will host a representative from Denison University, at 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 16, in the Prior Jollek Hall at Antilles School, on St. Thomas. It is a fine university (2,200 undergraduates), located on a beautiful campus above the town of Granville, Ohio. The Fiske College Guide notes that Denison is especially strong in the areas of natural and social sciences, philosophy, theatre, creative writing, geology, international studies and computer science. It is also one of a growing number of schools to be SAT/ACT optional, meaning that students do not need to submit standardized test scores when they apply for admission.
Representative Josue Hurtado will make a presentation and answer questions on Tuesday evening. Interested seniors will then have the opportunity to schedule personal interviews to take place on Wednesday, after which Hurtado will be inviting qualified and interested students of color for campus visits at Denison's expense, which is part of the university's effort to increase the diversity of its student body.
Students, parents, teachers and counselors from all Virgin Islands schools are welcome to attend. Anyone with any questions is invited to call Chris Teare at 776-1600, ext. 235 or 626-8999.
