Innovative Advises How to Deal with '5:00' Cable Box Error Message

0

Oct. 21, 2008 – Innovative Cable TV officials have advised the public that a number of set top boxes on St. Croix have been displaying '5:00' with no service. This occurs when the digital boxes attempt to load system data after a power outage, but no data is getting to the box because there is no cable signal.
"Because so many areas on St. Croix had been without power since Hurricane Omar passed, these same areas were without cable television service because much of our cable service electronics located in the field are serviced by commercial power," Innovative Cable TV President Jennifer Matarangas-King said.
According to Matarangas-King, a lack of signal to the cable television boxes could be verified by bypassing the box and connecting the incoming cable to the television directly. This process is for verification purposes only. Once service is restored, the digital box will begin to work again and most customers will not have to take any further action.
Customers who are experiencing this problem are advised to avoid unnecessary trips to the Innovative Business office by calling 912, or 778-1742 if calling from a cellular phone to report the problem. Before calling 912, however, customers are asked to verify if the cable drop from the pole that goes into their home is still up.
