CCT Presents 'Bee-Luther-Hatchee' for Three Weekends

0

Oct. 31, 2008 – The Caribbean Community Theater will present "Bee-Luther-Hatchee" on Friday, Nov. 7, for a three-week run. Performances will be held at 8 p.m., on Friday and Saturday evenings, Nov. 7, 8, 14, 15, 21 and 22, with a Sunday matinee at 4 p.m., on Nov. 16. The play is directed by Melody Harris and features a cast of Annie Barry, Sayeeda Carter, Oceana James, Dean Roberts, Mark Saladino and Shirley Ziegler. Written by Thomas Gibbons, it was the winner of the Addison Award (Best of Boston Theater) in 2002, and recipient of the Barrie and Bernice Stavis Playwriting Award.
The play commences when an African-American editor publishes "Bee-Luther-Hatchee," the autobiography of a reclusive 72-year-old black woman. When the book wins a prestigious award, confrontations play out on the edge of the racial divide.
In the words of Linda Eisenstein of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, "A powerful, provocative piece of theatrical writing. You want to run down the street twisting people's arms to see it."
All performances will be held at CCT, located at No. 18 Estate Orange Grove, Christiansted. Tickets will be sold at the door: $15 for adults and $8 for students. There are no reservations, so arrive early for best seating.
