Saying No to the Sugar House Casino

Dear Source:
An absurd idea! The casino at the Divi Resort is proof that more local money than that of tourists is poured into that venture. A casino in gallows bay will only be good for the developer. As Mr. Boyd stated "once the bypass is finished no one will be downtown" to that he wants to create yet another black hole where Christiansted evening patrons get sucked in to disappear. We passed a law with the single idea to increase the hotel rooms on St. Croix. Period! We all know that a hook and sinker attached to a fishing line will with a lot of patience result in a catch. The casino idea is nothing else than the worm that hopefully speeds up the catch. In our situation that of hotel development. At no time ever, and we the people spend many hours debating the issue, have we ever created that law for any other reason, especially to fill the pockets of just a few. Furthermore I am scared of
investors who from the beginning are painting the forclosure sign on their door. Simply if you are not sure your development will work…stay away from it! The idea of offering inexpensive stoore rents while admirable unfortunatly is just hot air. The reason is simply that if its to good to be true…it probably is. Mr. Boyd and company should revisit their idea and find a way to comply with the law. Build a hotel with a casino in Gallows bay!
