Barefoot Buddha to Host Slow Down Dinner

0

Dec. 5, 2008 – Barefoot Buddha will host St Thomas' first Slow Down Dinner to benefit Grow VI. Using only locally grown foods, they will create a delicious dinner for 30 community members. The four-course dinner will begin at 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 21, at Barefoot Buddha and conclude with drawings for several, local outdoor experiences or healing modality sessions with local wellness therapists.
The Slow Food movement preserves cultural cuisine, which includes an eco-region's associated plants, seeds, domestic animals and sustainable farming efforts. The movement is global with 83,000 members in 122 countries. It is especially timely for people to explore the idea of educating theirselves about a sustainable food supply in light of all the turbulence happening planet-wide that has created several food shortages recently. The goal is to promote and support eating locally and organically.
Tickets are $100 per person and can be purchased at Barefoot Buddha. To make reservations, contact Cory at 777-3668.
Part of the funds raised from the dinner will go to creating a Web site (growvi.org) that will highlight Virgin Islands farmers, their farms, farmers' markets, educational information and available produce lists. The rest will go to the Recycling Association of the V.I. to fund St Thomas recycling efforts.
