Have I told you that I love being a business operator here in the Virgin Islands?
In business normally the effort you put into the tangible things that you can control like giving good service and good quality products are normally returned at some point with success. But more often then not, in the Virgin Islands it's the intangible things that affect us the most.
Have I told you that I love being a business operator here in the Virgin Islands?
Recently I wrote a letter suggesting that we all try and support our favorite restaurants during these hard economic times "so that we can afford to keep our lights on." The day it was published we experienced a thirty eight (38) hour power outage on St. Thomas and St. John. Our restaurant was extremely busy that night (because we have a generator) but somehow that was not what I meant. Thanks WAPA.

As the holidays approached and the amount of people on-island multiplied so did the fly population. The inability to cover the raw garbage at the Bovoni dump with landfill, because "we don't have enough dirt" has added a lovely bouquet to our property that I am sure the guests won't mind. We poison the flies ourselves and just try and keep that prime rib cooking to put a better smell in the air.

On the eve of the New Year when we planned to end strong with a celebration with lots of guests our Innovative Telephone system died. It came up just long enough to post some credit card sales but then died again for two and a half (2 1/2) days. Just when people were getting over their hangovers and enjoying being off from work sitting in a house covered in snow. You know the time they pick up the phone and make reservations to visit the Caribbean. Our phones were silent…
