Jan. 8, 2009 – On behalf of the people and Government of the Virgin Islands, Governor John P. de Jongh, Jr. today expressed condolences to the family of James O. Terry, beloved father to Education Commissioner, Dr. LaVerne Terry. Mr. Terry died in Wilmington, Delaware with his family nearby.
DeJongh said the loss of a parent is a private time of grief and sorrow and offered words of reflection in memory of this proud father, husband, and family man. "Mr. Terry was a tremendously well-loved and cherished member of his community who loved his family dearly. He was adored for his warm spirit and profound sense of generosity. As the backbone of the Terry family, he will be greatly missed."
James O. Terry led a long and full life and recently celebrated the momentous occasion of his 61st Wedding Anniversary with his beloved wife in Wilmington, Delaware. His spirit uplifted all those whom he knew, and his life was a dynamic celebration of the importance of family and friends. The daughter of Mr. James O. Terry, Education Commissioner Dr. LaVerne Terry, is currently in Wilmington, Delaware, along with other members of the Terry family, where she has been caring for her ailing father through his passing.
