Heroes in our Midst

Feb. 4, 2009 – We must commend the courage and dignity of the young person who saved Max from further abuse by releasing the abused dog from captivity and seeing that the helpless canine lived.
We further commend the courage and ethical backbone of this young person’s parents in allowing the minor to testify against the man who allegedly tortured, blinded and brutalized a defenseless animal.
This is the right message to send.
We only wish the parents or the other children who witnessed the abuse had the same moral courage.
The message they are sending to their children is one of cowardice; it’s what’s wrong with our society. We would rather watch as laws are broken and people and animals badly hurt, than to stand up for what’s right.
Our president admitted just yesterday the he "screwed up."
Doing the right thing is in.
All of us need to follow President Obama’s lead.
