Seaborne Stealers, Wyatt Heat Finish on Winning Note

0

March 31, 2009 — The Seaborne Stealers wrapped up their regular season Monday night alone at the top of the Bob Owens Softball League with a five-inning, 16-6, mercy-ruled thumping of 40 Caliber at the D.C. Canegata Ballpark to remain sharp heading into the playoffs, which begin Thursday.
Stealers ace Samuel Ramos picked up his 17th win of the season and will once again claim the honors as the league's best pitcher with a 17-1 record. Ramos, in the last 10 years of the league, has racked up more wins than any other pitcher the league has ever had, and will be looking to pitch his team to this year's title.
It was the Stealers with 16 runs on 15 hits with two errors, while 40 Caliber finished with six runs on eight hits with four errors. Howard Forbes got the loss for 40 Caliber. Top batters for the Stealers were Owen Pimentel, 2 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs, and Freddie Pimentel, 3 for 3 with two home runs and six RBIs. For 40 Caliber, Robert Ramsingh went 2 for 4 with a home run and one RBI.
Wyatt Heat 15, Salty Sailors 5
In the final game of the regular season, Monday's night cap, defending champions Wyatt Heat finished on a high note with a 15-5 shellacking of the Salty Sailors.
The Heat, up and down for most of the year, finished nicely, but will need a good run throughout the playoffs to repeat as champions. The Heat scored 15 runs on 12 hits with three errors, while the improving Salty Sailors finished with five runs on nine hits and committed four errors. James Smith picked up the win on the hill for the Heat, while Denny Denton got the loss for the Salty Sailors. Top batters for the Heat were Angel Rosa, 4 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs, and Martin Charles, 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs. For the Salty Sailors, Jeff Elvins went 2 for 2 with one RBI.
Playoff Preview
The 2009 playoffs kick off Thursday with three scheduled games. In game one, the Salty Sailors will go up against Anchor Dive at 6:30 p.m., followed by 40 Caliber versus the Cartel in game two at 7:45 p.m. The late game will feature two of the league's better teams, Claudio Enterprises and the defending champions, Wyatt Heat, in what should be a very good contest.
