April 22, 2009 – David G. Kenworthy died in Portland, Oregon, Feb. 26. He was born David Parkhurst in Albany, Oregon, Oct. 24, 1934, and was raised in The Dalles, Oregon, by his aunt and uncle Mimi and V.B. Kenworthy. He attended Court Street, Whittier and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1952.
He was ordained an Episcopal priest in the Diocese of the Virgin Islands. He served and taught at St. Dunstan's Episcopal in Christianstad, St. Croix, where he built the high school and served as chair of the English department, living and working there for eight years.
Crucians may remember him also as "Santa Claus" at Naomi Moorehead's toy store, The Toy Chest, on Company Street. Many will also remember his unmistakable laugh. David was especially known for his fascination with culinary arts; he was an excellent cook, adapting recipes from around the world. His annual Christmas card was a collection of his favorite recipes of that year.
David is survived by his adopted Kenyan son, Isaac Amiga and two grandsons, David and Tomas. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, April 23, at St. Phillip the Deacon Episcopal Church, 120 NE Knott in Portland.
