Francis Gets Nod to Remain as Police Commissioner

June 17, 2009 — Acting Police Commissioner Novelle Francis has been nominated by Gov. John deJongh Jr. to fill the post on a permanent basis, Government House announced Tuesday.
Francis, who was appointed acting commissioner in May, has held every uniformed position in the department during his 22-year career. (See "Novelle Francis Named New Police Commissioner.") A St. Croix native, Francis was assistant commissioner immediately before his promotion. He has also held the positions of territorial police chief, St. Croix deputy chief of police, special assistant to the commissioner, supervisor of detectives and the Criminal Investigation Bureau, supervisor and commander of the Juvenile Bureau, police detective and police officer.
The nomination must be confirmed by the V.I. Legislature.
