A newly developed certificate program, the Certificate in Workplace Bookkeeping Skills, is designed for individuals who are interested in learning more about bookkeeping as a career or for their business. It combines two in-class courses with one online training program to maximize the learning experience. The course, which is being offered by the University of the Virgin Islands – Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning (UVICELL) Center, will be held from 6-8 p.m. starting Sept. 15. The first course, Intro to Bookkeeping, will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays on St. Croix at the UVICELL Center in Frederiksted. On St. Thomas, classes will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at the UVICELL Center on the St. Thomas Campus.

Participants will learn to perform basic bookkeeping functions such as journalizing and posting business transactions, preparing basic financial statements, reconciling bank statements, preparing payroll and more.
