0

The St. Croix East End Marine Park (STXEEMP) announces a preview of its Interpretive Bayside Tour and Shoreline Clean-up of Boiler Bay. The group will meet at Cramer Park on Thursday, Oct. 1. This shoreline clean-up is in celebration of the 2009 Coastweeks, which is a three-week period during which hundreds of volunteers throughout the Virgin Islands and thousands more from more than 80 countries worldwide get together for the largest cleanup for the benefit of the marine environment. With these worldwide cleanups, organizations hope to better the understanding and awareness of the importance of our beaches and marine resources.

For more information or to reserve a space for the 2 ½ -hour tour and shoreline clean-up, call 718-EEMP (3367) and ask for Park Tours. The bayside tour will be led by Maine Park Interpretive Rangers John Farchette III or Jose Sanchez.
Materials needed:
• Appropriate gear consists of a hat/sunglasses, long sleeve shirt or sunscreen and comfortable walking shoes (that may get wet), preferably closed shoes.
• Guides and participants should bring ample water; tour guides will carry a small, portable First Aid kit.
• Those with health conditions should bring any necessary medication.
The St Croix East Marine Park is the Virgin Islands’ first territorial marine park and was established for the purpose of managing the valuable marine resources on the east end of St. Croix. These natural and cultural resources provide environmental, economic and social benefits to residents and visitors. Learn more about the STXEEMP by visiting the Web site www.stxeastendmarinepark.org
