A suspect wanted by police for five years was arrested on St. Lucia, where he’d been living, and returned to St. Croix to face charges.
Khaeil Alphonso Thompson, age 27, was living in St. Lucia since he left St. Croix in 2004 following a shooting in Frederiksted, according to a release from the Virgin Islands Police Department.
VIPD detectives had information Thompson was in St. Lucia and contacted St. Lucian authorities, who made a positive identification of Thompson through his photo on the VIPD website’s "Most Wanted" page, at http://www.vipd.gov.vi/crime/wanted.aspx.
Thompson is charged with reckless endangerment in the first degree, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, unlawful possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence, unlawful possession of ammunition, unlawful sexual contact and aggravated assault and battery.
The charges stem from a Dec. 18, 2004, incident at the Culture Night Club in Frederiksted. Police said Thompson discharged several shots at three victims, hitting a woman at least three times and a man at least twice.
He was arrested at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and placed on a $150,000 bail. He was remanded to custody. The arrest was made with the assistance of the St. Lucian authorities, the FBI in Puerto Rico and St. Croix, the VIPD cold case squad and the attorney general’s office.
