AAFVI Gives Queen Louise Home a Holiday Make Over

0

On Saturday, Nov. 14, a diverse group of volunteers from the American Advertising Federation Virgin Islands (AAFVI) descended upon the Queen Louise Home for the Aged ready to make merry with paint brushes, rollers and the fresh paint. As the newly adopted AAFVI charity, Ernie Pennyfeather, the home’s director, and Jane DiCola, AAFVi vice president and community outreach chairperson, have been discussing numerous ways in which the AAFVI can help and assist the home. Pennyfeather stated her desire to “create a softer, less institutionalized interior for the facility so that it feels like home.” The organization offered funds to purchase paint with donations collected at various AAFVI events and to seek matching funds to assist in the costly make over.

Mike Perron of the Paint Depot and past AAF president generously provided sufficient paint to complete the interior of the home. “We are so very grateful to Mr. Peron for his generosity towards our facility,” said Pennyfeather. “In the current economic downturn, we welcome the help from the community. This project might be considered non-essential, but for our residents and employees, this make over will have daily and long term rewards.”
Approximately 16 volunteers showed up at the Queen Louise Home on Saturday morning with rolled up sleeves and a mission to make over the interior of the home. Volunteers are comprised of AAFVI board members, the UVI Students Ad Club, led by President St Claire Hodge and a group of Charlotte Amalie High School volunteers led by Yazmin Jamil.
Other AAF projects for the Queen Louise Home for the Aged and the Lucinda Millin Home include a recently developed Pet Program and an after school Adopt a Grandparent program which provide community service hours for our students and caring attention for our seniors.
