The National Guard Hummers and the Seaborne Stealers were easy winners Monday night in the Bob Owens Slow Pitch Softball league, winning by scores of 16-6 and 19-4 respectively, while the Warriors cooled Wyatt Heat, 20-18 at the D. C. Canegata Ball Park.
The Hummers whipped Speak the Word and the Stealers cleaned up the diamond with the Dirty Dozen, both games decided by way of the 10-run mercy rule.

Hummers 16, Speak the Word 6
The National Guard Hummers silenced Speak the Word Ministries, 16-6 in game one on Monday. STW, once a perennial powerhouse in the Bob Owens Slow pitch Softball League, is another case of how the mighty has fallen, and sits near the bottom of this season’s league standings. It was the Hummers with 16 runs on 17 hits and three errors, while STW had six runs on 10 hits and three errors. Roman Cruz got the win on the hill for the Hummers, while spot starter Ulric Benjamin got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Wayne Ross (2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs) and Edgardo Sanes (2 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs). For STW, Norbert Pickering was 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs.

Stealers 19, Dirty Dozen 4
After losing their first game of the season last time out, the league-leading Seaborne Stealers got back on the winning track with a 19-4 mercy-ruled thrashing of the Dirty Dozen in game two. The Stealers pounded out 21 hits in amassing 19 runs while committing two errors. The Dirty Dozen could only muster four runs on 10 hits against Stealers ace and winning pitcher, Sam Ramos. Denny Denton got the loss. Owen Pimentel led the Stealers offensively, going 3 for 3 with two home runs and seven RBIs. He was ably supported by Aaron Howell, who was 4 for 4 with two home runs and six RBIs of his own. For the Dirty Dozen, Brandon Rausch and Jason Helima were both 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs apiece.

Warriors 20, Heat 18
In Monday’s night cap the Warriors cooled off Wyatt Heat 20-18 in a slugfest of two of the league’s powerhouses. It was the Warriors with 20 runs on 18 hits and three errors, while the Heat finished with 18 runs on 22 hits and four errors. The winning pitcher was Angel Soto, and Dexter DeSouza got the loss. Top batters for the winners were Ernecido Bon (3 for 4 with a home run and two RBIs) and Luis Alexander (2 for 4 with a home run and three RBIs). For the Heat, Jose Berrios was 3 for 4 with two home runs and four RBIs, and Thomas Corcino was 3 for 3 with a home run and three RBIs.
