A last-minute agreement between the National Cable Television Cooperative and MTV Networks kept numerous cable TV shows on the air, Innovative Cable TV said in a statement Friday.
The stations were scheduled to go off the air Friday if National Cable Television and MTV couldn’t reach an agreement Friday.
The stations are MTV, Nickelodeon, VH1, Spike, TV Land, Comedy Central, Nick Jr., Nicktoons, TeenNick, MTV2, MTV Jams, MTV Hits, VH1 Classic, VH1Soul, and CMT Pure Country.
On Thursday, Innovative Cable sent out a press release alerting customers the stations could go off the air Friday.
Innovative Cable is one of 1,000 members of the National Cable Telecommunications Cooperative, the national non-profit cable TV cooperative that negotiates programming fees for the smaller cable TV companies across the United States. According to Innovative, the cable company relies on National Cable Telecommunications Cooperative to negotiate the best rates.
"We supported National Cable Television Cooperative in its efforts to represent us at the table," Innovative Cable President Jennifer Matarangas-King said in a Friday press release. “We know it is our duty to ensure that our customers get the best entertainment at the best value. Unfortunately it appears that this battle will continue with programmers across the spectrum but I want to emphasize that we will continue to fight for fair and reasonable programming fees in order to provide value and quality programming for our customers in the future."
Matarangas-King said it is Innovative Cable’s priority to maintain a balance between rising programming costs and providing a diverse channel lineup for the Innovative customers. She said that the fact that hundreds of other National Cable Television Cooperative members face the same risk of loss of programming emphasizes that this is not a local problem, but one on a national scale.
