St. Croix Rescue Squad Seeks Recruits for Academy

Do you have a desire to help your community and have a yearning for adventure that’s not being fulfilled? St. Croix Rescue Squad may be the place for you. It is currently accepting applications for Recruit Class 2010. Applications are available at the Rescue Academy located at Five Corners and in the download section of the Rescue Web site at www.stxrescue.com They will be accepted until Feb. 17.

Becoming a member of St. Croix Rescue provides personal and professional development, it enhances one’s employment opportunities, provides travel opportunities and, most importantly, gives an individual the chance to serve his or her community in ways few other organizations can. Being a part of the squad means you are saving lives.
Training courses include: Emergency Medical Care (Medical First Responder or Advanced EMT), Marine Rescue and Water Safety, Vehicle Extrication, High Angle Rescue, Emergency Management and Hazardous Material Awareness, and Search and Rescue.
St. Croix Rescue is a volunteer organization; however, recruits must:
1. Be 18 years or older
2. Have a high school diploma or the equivalent
3. Not have a criminal record
4. Have a valid Virgin Islands driver’s license
5. Have good traffic record
6. Be of good physical and mental health
Interviews for Recruit Class 2010 have begun and will continue through Feb. 24. Admission to the academy is based upon applicant’s meeting the criteria previously listed and a successful interview with the Rescue Selection Committee.
Orientation and training classes will begin on Monday, March 1. Classes will be held from 7-10 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays, and two weekends each month. Graduation is scheduled for September 2010.
There is no cost for the training, but recruits do need to pay a fee of $325, which covers the costs of books, materials and a Class B uniform. Arrangements can be made, in advance, to pay this fee in installments.
