This Preston Doane painting will be on sale Saturday at Maufe Gallery. The works of well-known, local artists will be featured this Saturday at Maufe Gallery for an art sale to benefit the St. George Village Botanical Garden.
The collection of works, most decades old, include signed, original work by Toby Schoyer, Preston Doane, Don Dahlke, Fritz Henle and many more.
The works are from the private collection of the estate of Rosalind Denney, said Maufe Gallery owner Therese Trudeau, who added that Denney had been a longtime garden supporter.
Trudeau said the collection includes landscapes, seascapes and black-and-white photography.
“The works are all Caribbean-themed in terms of subject matter and composition,” Trudeau said. There are 18 pieces for sale in a variety of mediums, price ranges and sizes.
Bob Gleeson, art salesman and owner of Many Hands gallery in Christiansted, checked the pricing on the pieces for Trudeau, and he said the pricing was very reasonable.
“The prices they have on the pieces are very good,” Gleeson said. “This is a good way to support the garden and get that special piece of art. Art is a good investment, the value never goes down it always goes up.”
Maufe Gallery is at 5 Company Street, Christiansted behind the RE/MAX realty office. There will be a reception with refreshments from 5 to 8 p.m.
Garden volunteers will also be on hand to sign people up for garden memberships.
The gallery will be open to the public on Thursday Feb. 18. The works may also be viewed privately through March 6, call 332-4556 for an appointment.
