Education Urges Parents to Return Completed Socio-Economic Surveys

0

The Virgin Islands Department of Education issues a plea to parents who received the Tri-Annual Socio-economic Paper Survey to return the completed forms to their children’s schools for recording. Education Commissioner Dr. La Verne Terry said, “Several weeks ago, select families across the territory received a survey form that was sent home with their children. The survey helps obtain important data toward securing federal funding for telecommunication and Internet services at all public schools in the territory, and also determines the percentage of students eligible for the Child Nutrition Program (CNP).

“It has been indicated that inquiries have been received from parents regarding the need for personal and financial information to complete the survey,” the commissioner continued. “I assure you that the information provided will be kept strictly confidential and individuals cannot be linked to their submissions. If you are a parent requiring assistance completing the survey or if you have further questions, please call the University of the Virgin Islands’ (UVI) Eastern Caribbean Center (ECC) at 693-1021, and the assistance you required will be provided.
“Your proactive participation in this survey is the only way to ensure that our schools receive the proper federal aid. Non-response could result in the loss of millions of dollars that could benefit your children’s education,” said Dr. Terry. “We are asking that you take the opportunity to enhance your child’s education, complete and return your survey today.”
