The St. John Sports Partnership is starting the baseball season with a big Jamboree and registration day at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20, at Winston Wells Field. The Partnership has begun practices for baseball and tee ball, but is looking for more kids to join up. To get the ball rolling, the organization will have a Jamboree and registration day. Coaches will be there to help the kids get started. The Sports Partnership provides equipment for those who don’t, so just come on down, register your child and have fun.
The league is for girls and boys ages 5 to 13. Tee-ball is for ages 5 to 8 and baseball is for kids 9 to 13 years-old. Over the next few weeks, the league will group the players and have tryouts for the 9 to 13 year-olds so that it can make sure it has evenly divided teams. Players will be assigned to a team of coaches, and the season will begin in March and end late April. Tee-ballers will be assigned teams based on the numbers of kids signing up and the Partnership hopes to create at least two teams.
All kids may come to the practices, which will be held at 4 p.m., Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. There will be a second Jamborees held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 27, at National Park Field. Babe Ruth rules will be the basis of the league. The registration fee is $25 per child. Checks can be made out to the St. John Sports Center.
Forms are available at Parks and Recreation, Connections, the St. John Community Foundation Office (3rd Floor Marketplace) or through coaches. As always, volunteers will be needed to help with coaching, umpiring and helping with food on game nights.
