Graduating students who plan to attend a college or university in the fall of 2010 may submit applications for the 2010 Robert C. Byrd Scholarship. Completed applications should be submitted to the Office of the Insular Superintendent at 2133 Hospital Street, Christiansted by 5 p.m. on Friday, May 7, according to a press release from St. Croix Superintendent Gary Molloy.
The scholarship program is administered annually by the V.I. Department of Education. As part of this program five Byrd scholars receive awards of $1,500 per year.
Prospective Byrd scholars must meet the following criteria:
- Satisfactorily complete secondary school or GED requirements with a cumulative average of "C" or better
- Show evidence of enrollment at an institution of higher education
- Must have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and promise of continued academic achievement.
Applications are available from guidance counselors at the various public and private high schools, the Insular Superintendent’s Office, and downloadable at www.doe.vi.
