Commissioner Julia Sheen reminds residents that the Department of Health will bring health services back to the Estate Tutu community as part of its Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program outreach at the Al McBean Sporting Complex.
The event, named “Bringing Healthcare Back into our Community,” will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 20, and residents can take advantage of free glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, HIV, prostrate, breast and cervical cancer screenings. Information on nutrition and wellness, paying for drug prescriptions under Medicare Part D and oral health will be distributed. Residents will also get the opportunity to schedule dental appointments on site.
Sheen said that the department will partner with the V.I. Taxi Commission to provide free rides to and from Red Hook, Nadir, Smith Bay and Hidden Valley entrance beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
“The pick-up at the Red Hook dock is to accommodate residents of St. John who want to take advantage of the free health services being offered,” she said.
Transportation to the Al McBean Sporting Complex will be at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. from the Red Hook Dock; Nadir basketball court intersection, Smith Bay basketball court and baseball field, and the Hidden Valley entrance. Taxis will drop off residents to the location they were picked up from beginning at 10:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m.
In addition to the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, the outreach is co-sponsored by the AARP, VI Taxi Commission, American Cancer Society, Cancer Support VI, United Way of St. Thomas-St. John, St. Thomas Administrator’s Office, Continuum Care Inc., Charlotte Kimelman Cancer Institute and Rotary Club of St. Thomas II.
