Brief: Recycling to Begin at Major Concerts and Events

0

Recycling in the territory takes a step forward this week as the V.I. Waste Management Authority (WMA) kicks off a new event-based aluminum can collecting program it is calling "Yes, You Can Recycle the Can!"
The Reichhold Center for the Arts, Charlotte Amalie High School, Island Center for the Performing Arts, Recycling Association of the Virgin Islands, and the Boys & Girls Club of St. Croix are all working together with WMA with the ultimate aim of recycling at every big public event.
This weekend’s Black Violin family concerts (Friday at St. Croix’s Island Center and Saturday at St. Thomas’ Reichhold Center) will be the first events to recycle cans under the new program. The Reichhold Center will donate its collected aluminum cans to the Charlotte Amalie High School, and Island Center will give its collection to the Boys & Girls Club of St. Croix and the Recycling Association of the Virgin Islands.
Organizations interested in participating in the program should contact Charmin Springer, recycling coordinator for VIWMA, at 340-712-4961 or e-mail at [email protected], or visit the VIWMA website.
