The Department of Human Services took strides to improve social services territory-wide with the use of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds by hosting a 12-week directors course for the non-profit sector. Approximately 60 representatives from non-profit organizations will be rewarded with certificates from 12:30-2 p.m. on Saturday, March 27, at the DHS Head Start Complex on St. Thomas.
The course was designed to build the capacity of non-profits to accommodate a growing clientele. Participants honed their skills in varied areas that encompassed proficiency in supervising, human resources, financial management, and grant writing. Some of the participants included The Village Partners in Recovery, Beyond Visions Foundation, History Culture and Tradition Foundation Inc., the Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence, Family Resource Center, Wesley Methodist Afterschool Program, the Eliezer Center for Young Men and Children, New Horizon Empowerment Foundation and the Girl Scouts of the Virgin Islands.
